Between Finals

Life's Quiet Pages

I walked through a bookstore
Slowly down each aisle, I glanced
And couldn't see beyond the titles
Whether I couldn't see or didn't read doesn't matter
I kept their voices silent
Wondering what might be behind those pages
I have yet to write in my life

Here’s what would be within them:
Started out by staying out late last night
Eating out on borrowed credit,
Watching someone else’s picture move about on cue
Slept till the early afternoon
Studied for a second
Thought about the girl last night
Hoped she'd give me that look once more-
Summary: Living nothing but a nighttime hope
And a daytime sleep

And so I kept on walking down the aisle
Someone asked once, who reads an American novel?
I would ask, who reads anything at all?
Someone else can play the music
I'll see the motion picture when I please
And hear someone else tell their travel story
"This one time" with, "Remember when" again and again
Rewind and play, my life is on repeat

Reflections from Easter

Infancy Elderly

Coming in a scream
And leaving with a sigh
Between, touchings of you and I

Left are questions wondering why
Fallen are hearts troubles like a dream
Wrapped in cloth then torn away by the seam

Eyes everywhere unnoticed, eyes closed fast
Then open, seeing blind guided to what was before
Hearing stories of those gone on, lived on in lore

Closed now are actions, movements, to the very core
A witness, lover, friend sees this come to past
Watches this one go and asks, what will last?

What of the goodness of my dear friend?
What of my heart with its broken things to mend?
What is to come, what happens at life’s end?

Breif Blitzes of Belief

Fast: Usain Bolt

An anthem of atoms
In a song of seconds
Calling out a chorus

Move, beyond muscles
Move, beyond reason
Move, beyond belief

Show me effort come round the bend
Then leave me at beginning's end
And allow me to wonder again

Being without perception
Being without limits
Being without question

This movement pivots
From one space to another
To this I say- I’ve seen the other

A common occurance

Everything but One

He only wanted to be loved
As long as words came to him
And laughs poured out of her
All would be right

It started so simple
But now confusion entered
What was she thinking
After his every line she laughed

He decided to open up
She would understand right
You make me feel-
The words stopped her laugh

Her eyes retreated
His confidence expired
Why did he say such things
Both waited for ignorance to return

We were just talking
Well sure and then-
What did you expect
What do you want me to do

Such moments never were the same
Laughter leads to loneliness
He could be everything but one
More than someone there for fun
